Plywood, which has been the leading foreign exchange earner outside the oil and gas sector so far, is likely to be replaced by another commodity in the near future. In 1990, foreign exchange receipts from textile exports already exceeded those from plywood exports, eventhough the difference was not big. This is an indication that the plywood industry is approaching its culmination point and that its golden age is over.
