Compared with international capital markets, the Indonesian capital market, especially the Jakarta Stock Exchange, is lagging far behind. This is indicated by the low Composite Share Price Index on the Jakarta Stock Exchange. The Composite Share Price Index in Indonesia is still low because the Indonesian capital market is still relatively young and because share prices in the country still show a strong tendency to decline. In the past few years, the Composite Share Price Index in the world's major capital markets has shown a tendency to increase, except the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
