Article: Maghreb-EC Free Trade Pact If Algeria & Neighbours Play Their Cards Right

Free trade arrangements and energy integration between the European Community and the Arab Maghreb Union (AMU) would be expected if Islamic fanaticism is contained. In the first phase, negotiations beginning this year, the EC will have a transitional arrangement similar to the one it is establishing with some East European states. If AMU governments upgrade their systems and politico- economic pluralism proves viable, there would be closer partnership.
