The five elements: the tribe, the sect, the ideology, the geo-politics and natural resources, (see Oil Market Trends of this week) have co-existed peacefully when the five external factors had a positive effect on Middle East decision makers. In other words, they were in balance because the positive effect (such as strong demand for Middle East oil and gas) generated sufficient revenue for the decision makers to neutralise negative elements. But they have been in imbalance - and therefore in conflict - when the five external factors had a negative effect.
