Indonesia's rattan furniture industry, which did not start until quite recently, has shown significant growth. This can be seen from the fact that for the past five years, rattan furniture has topped the list of the finished rattan products which Indonesia exported. Indonesia started to export rattan furniture in significant quantities in 1987, when the value of its exports reached US$ 14.9 million. The figure grew very rapidly in the following years and reached US$ 255.1 million in 1991. Other finished rattan products such as tikar and lampit have been seeing export decreases.
