NEW YORK, July 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Millions of bells throughout the United States will toll for Liberty when President Ronald Reagan lights the torch of the Statue of Liberty on the evening of July 3, at approximately 10:53 p.m., EDT, at the opening ceremonies of "Liberty Weekend."
By a joint presidential proclamation sponsored by U.S. Sen. John Warner (R-Va.) and U.S. Rep. Lynn Martin (R-Ill.), governors and mayors in all 50 states have been urged to ask their constituents to ring church bells, steeple bells, school bells -- wherever a bell sits in a tower -- to ring out and join in "Let Freedom Ring Day."
