Sound good? This may sound even better: One librarian at a newspaper reports that when a database tape there was corrupted and 1990 data couldn't be retrieved, having that year available on CD "saved our bacon."
For the 48 newspapers that are already making their databases available on compact discs, CDs haven't quite been a panacea for economic and technical woes. But their impact has been largely positive.
