Chanel looks dominate clearance as fall merchandise seeps in
NEW YORK -- As fall merchandise trickles into accessories departments here, clearance goods continue to be highly visible.
This season's big seller, the Chanel-look handbag with quilted fabric and chain link straps, also appears to be the season's big markdown item. A visit this week to three major stores indicated the handbag category in general is loaded with markdowns; costume jewelry, on the other hand, seems to be making a smoother transition into fall, and some executives report both summer remainders and early fall items are moving well.
