Summary:
The sanctions which the European Community announced on May 27 that it would apply against Serbia and its ally Montenegro have been reinforced by the measures decided on by the United Nations Security Council on May 31, the EC announced on June 1, welcoming the UN Resolution. United Nations Resolution 757 establishes a total trade embargo (except in food and medicines), covering oil sales and air links, against the two republics that form all that is left of Yugoslavia. The political agreement which the EC Ministers reached on May 27 provided only for a trade embargo, suspension of export credits, and a freeze on scientific cooperation.
