US buyers bid up sable in Leningrad
NEW YORK -- Aggressive bidding by U.S. furriers and retailers advanced sable prices at least 15 to 20 percent this week at the 103rd international fur auction in Leningrad, source of the world's finest sable.
The sale, which opened Monday and closes Friday, has been characterized by "very strong" competition among U.S. buyers, reports V/O Sojuzpushnina, which conducts the thrice-yearly sale.
Sojuzpushnina said an offering of 65,510 raw sable sold out Tuesday at prices 15 to 20 percent ahead of January levels for commercial goods. High quality pelts reportedly were selling at "very firm" prices compared with the ...
