Article: Austria to check 20,000 contaminated sites?

According to the Austrian Federal Environment Agency (UBA), it has registered 3,460 potentially contaminated sites in the country since the 1989 Contaminated Site Remediation Law (ALSAG) came into force. It is planned to complete the investigations to determine the level of contamination of all the sites within 10 years, Stefan Weihs of the UBA told HAZNEWS. The Agency estimates, however, that there could be over 20,000 potentially contaminated sites in Austria.
