Liz Claiborne plans a move into retailing

NEW YORK -- Along with reporting another surge in earnings for the second quarter and half, Liz Claiborne, Inc., on Tuesday disclosed plans to enter the retail business.

Earnings climbed 44.1 percent in the second quarter and 40.8 percent in the six months ended June 28.

In its proposed retail venture, the company plans to develop a new label of women's apparel designed to sell at different price points than the Liz Claiborne merchandise.
