Judith Leiber: The art of the handbag
NEW YORK -- Judith Leiber has turned handbags into art objects. Her evening bags come in the shape of animals, and even a Chinese Buddha, and they are covered with anywhere from 5,000 to 8,000 rhinestones, all applied individually by hand. People have been known to collect and display them in their homes. Leiber treats her products as art objects. They are shown in her New York showroom in antique French oak armoires.
