Summary:
The European Atomic Forum, Foratom, has welcomed the European Parliament Energy Committee's approval of an increase in the EC's research and development budget of 1.6 billion Ecus for 1993-1994 until the 4th Framework Programme is adopted and enforced. Although the proposed increase has now been scaled down in the Parliament's first reading of the 1993 EC Budget and the EC Council of Budget Ministers agreed on November 16 to keep research spending at virtually the same level as agreed in its first reading in July, Foratom is in favour of extra funds to help follow up ongoing R&D projects in nuclear safety and nuclear fusion.
