Summary:

Hopes of getting the long-stalled plan for a European Company Statute adopted this year were dashed once again during the April 5 Internal Market Council in Luxembourg when EC Ministers asked themselves whether it is really necessary to have a common European Company Statute in the Single Market at all.

Since the Commission last amended its proposal for a European Company Statute in May 1991, the Council of Ministers has now examined it on 16 occasions without reaching any kind of consensus, except on minor points.
