Stevedores from the seven-member Organization of Eastern Caribbean States, Venezuela and Curacao decided on May 7 not to handle cargo bound for Grenada at their ports in solidarity with a go-slow by their counterparts in the spite isle. Grenada's powerful seamen and waterfront workers union is battling with shipping agents for a new wage contract. The Grenada shipping agents, an association of companies which import and export goods here, says local dockers are already among the highest paid in the region in a country with one of the Caribbean's lowest salary scales.
