The leasing industry in Indonesia is dominated by joint-venture companies which receive capital support from their foreign principals, which are financially strong.
Despite the domination of joint-venture leasing companies, the partners of several joint-venture leasing companies have pulled out of their partnership with local companies. After Westpac Banking Corporation (Australia) and Bangkok Bank Ltd. (Thailand), Amex Leasing Corporation (USA) recently pulled out of its partnership in the BNI-Amex Leasing. According to informed sources, Amex which had a 50% share in BNI-Amex Leasing intends to focus on its banking business.
