The emergence of luxury apartments in major cities, especially Jakarta, seems to have had some adverse impact on the occupancy rates among star-rated hotels. For the past three months, the average occupancy rate among star-rate hotels in Jakarta dropped by 10% from the corresponding period of last year.
However, the decline in the star-rated hotel occupancy rates has been caused not only by the emergence of luxury apartment buildings but also by the emergence of new hotels and of thousands of renovated hotel rooms.
