Depressed Prices, Geological Washouts Result in Dimming Bright Alaska Future
NEW YORK -- Alaska and the U.S. Beaufort Sea, once expected to supply half of America's oil needs, will be stagnant for the next five years under the weight of low oil prices and geological disappointments, analysts said.
"We're in for a real quiet period for a half-decade," Thomas Petrie, analyst with First Boston Corp. in Denver, said.
"It's at a depressed level, once you thought there would be five to seven wells being drilled at a time in offshore waters, but now it looks like no more than one at a time," said Albert Anton, analyst with Pforzheimer and Co.
