Consistent with its market share strategy, Saudi Aramco is shortly to start negotiations on a $2 billion venture to build the biggest oil refinery in China. And work has begun on the first phase of the biggest oil refining venture in Japan, which eventually will have a capacity of 450,000 b/d, with the Saudi concern as a key partner.
The Chinese refinery is to be built at Huangdao, in the province of Shandong, with a capacity of 300,000 b/d. It will be a joint venture between Saudi Aramco and its South Korean partner Ssangyong on the one hand, and China's state-controlled refining firm Sinochem and the municipality of Shandong on the other.
