FLORIDA TREND'S TOP 200 PRIVATE COMPANIES

To a lot of people, the term "privately held company' translates to "small company.' This year's edition of the FLORIDA TREND Top 200 Private Companies ought to lay that myth to rest.

A series of recent leveraged buyouts has placed two of Florida's biggest corporations at the top of our list this year. Jack Eckerd Corp., the drug store giant that went private in 1986, weighs in with $2.5 billion in revenues. Eckered Corp. is larger than all but the state's four biggest publicly traded non-financial companies, and it employs 33,000 people.
