Chemical industry is one of the pillar industries of the national economy. China mainland has secured a rapid development of the industry since 1949 and its outstanding achievements have attracted great attention of the world. However, some problems are still existing, which should be treated seriously. This article will try to discuss the evolution of the structure of mainland chemical industry and its trends under the constraints of capital, energy, natural resources, transport and environment and probe the possibility of inter - supplement to the chemical industry on the both sides of the Taiwan Strait.
