Governor Pedro Rossello is expected to travel to Mexico in early 1994 to explore closer ties with that country. In the past, the Government of Puerto Rico has announced plans to open an office in Mexico (to promote investment, trade and tourism) but thus far nothing has been formalized. (This is another example of important matters being placed on the back burner, while the leadership remains obsessed with political status.)
The number of manufacturing jobs fell by 4,100 to 145,800 between August 1992 -August 1993, according to a survey of businesses by the Puerto Rico Labor Department. In October 1993, 11 plans closed, with 671 permanent jobs lost. Also during ...
