Despite its export capacity, the domestic industry of nylon tire cord still enjoys some protection from the Government in the form of high import duties. The Indonesian Tire Producers' Association has been complaining about this protection; they hope that the Government will revoke such protection so that Indonesian tire producers can improve their efficiency. If such protection is removed, the price of nylon tire cord will decrease and this will enable local tire producers to be more competitive. If local tire producers are competitive, they will no longer need the government protection which is currently given to them.
