Brooks retiring from L&T
NEW YORK - Joseph E. Brooks announced Monday that he is retiring as chairman and chief executive officer of Lord & Taylor Effective Jan. 3.
He also announced his immediate resignation as a member of the board of directors of May Department Stores Co.
He decision comes just 10 days after stockholder approval of a merger between Associated Dry Goods -- former parent company of L&T -- and May Co.
Reached at his home, Brooks said, "It was the hardest decision I ever made in my business career. It's the end of an era." He said, "For many years, I expected to be ceo of ADG and leave it a $10 billion company. I had ...
