WEST BLOOMFIELD, Mich., Oct. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- The courage and compassion of residents of Le Chambon - Sur Lignon, France, particularly the Rev. Andre Trocme who, during World War II, inspired his village to rescue persecuted and hunted Jews, will be recognized with the Holocaust Memorial Center's second Rigtheousness Award.
At the same time, the center will also launch a campaign to make the Hebrew word and symbol, "Zachor" -- remember -- part of the Jewish culture.
The story of Le Chambon on the Cevenol Plateau is unique in World War II history. The village and surrounding communities have been credited with saving from 3,000 to 5,000 lives.
