Article: World Bank to fund Mexican border project?

The Mexican National Bank for Public Works and Services, BANOBRAS, has submitted a request to the World Bank for a $370 million loan for its Mexico -Northern Border Environment Project. The Project, which has a total estimated cost of $760 million, will address environmental problems which have partly been due to rapid economic and urban growth in the 100 km zone south of the border with the US.

The Project would have two main components; "institutional strengthening" and "environmental services". Environmental services would account for 74% of the total costs, which would support some 15-18 investment sub-projects in five or six border cities in the areas of water ...
