Europe is consuming 320 000 tonnes of glass-fibre reinforced thermoplastic every year, representing a requirement for about 90 000 tonnes of glass fibre. The estimate, from Vetrotex, means the sector accounts for about 25% of the total market for glass fibre composites of all types. The major resin system used in this sector is polyamide (PA), which accounts for 50% of all materials, while polypropylene (PP) is second with 20% of the market.
