Odenwaelder Marzipan Konditorei, a German manufacturer of sweets, is using a new linear low-density irradiated film, Clysar ABL from DuPont (UK) Ltd., that offers value-added shrink properties and provides skintight protection for any item, whatever shape it is.
The company's marzipan sweets are a familiar sight in supermarkets and outlets throughout Germany. They range from animals and flowers to fruit, cakes, even sausages and at Christmas a marzipan Santa Claus. The irregularity and at times complexity of the various distinctive shapes, however, poses packaging problems.
