Article: PALM OIL LIKELY TO BECOME MAJOR EXPORT COMMODITY

Palm oil has the potential to become a major export commodity for Indonesia outside the oil and gas sector. Although at present, their value is still below the value of rubber exports, palm oil exports from Indonesia have shown a high growth rate. In the past five years, they have grown by around 21.5% annually, from US$ 294.7 million in 1989 to US$ 582.6 million in 1993. Indonesia may still increase its receipts from palm oil exports, as there is a shift in the world's vegetable oil consumption from soybean oil to palm oil.
