Enhanced barrier and structural performance, source reduction and ease of recyclability are some of the benefits claimed of a polyethylene terephthalate (PET)-liquid crystal polymer (LCP) alloy. Superex Polymer Inc, a subsidiary of Foster-Miller Inc, of Waltham, Massachusetts, USA, has announced the availability of technology for manufacturing these PET-LCP alloys. With this technology, the properties of PET can be enhanced by a factor of two to five with the addition of 10-15% LCP.
