MUNCIE, Ind., Nov. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Ball Corporation (NYSE: BLL) today announced that its aerospace systems division has been awarded a $46 million contract to design and build the space telescope imaging spectrograph (STIS) instrument for the Hubble Space Telescope.
The award is the largest initial contract for Ball in its aerospace systems division's 30-year history. The STIS will be built at the division's Boulder, Colo., facility for the NASA/Goddard Space Flight Center. The design, development and test of STIS will be accomplished over a five-year period, with a planned launch on the space shuttle in 1992.
