Indonesia's bicycle component industry has not been able to support its bicycle industry properly. Indonesian-made bicycles are less competitive on the international market than bicycles made by other countries. This is reflected by the fact that both the volume and value of Indonesia's bicycle exports have been growing very slowly. In 1993, for example, the value of such exports reached US$ 31.2 million, up by only 2.9% from the previous year. In the same year, the value of Indonesia's bicycle component imports rose to US$ 38.6 million.
