Industry and Energy Minister, Amar Mekhloufi, on Oct. 25, 1994 told 'La Tribune' that Algiers wanted to raise oil production to 1 million b/d through foreign investment. He also said: "To this must be added the last 15 discoveries by foreign companies in recent years and the introduction of the horizontal drilling technique which until now was unknown in Algeria. All this strengthens our ambition to see our output reach and exceed one million b/d", with the help of foreign partners. The same applies to the gas sector. Sonatrach is to raise gas export capacity to 75 BCM/year by 2000.
