Article: Extended coverage of immunosuppressive drugs clarified by HCFA

The Health Care Financing Administration (HCFA) has finally clarified the extension of the coverage of immunosuppressive drugs provided for in the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (OBRA) of 1993 which mandates "phased in extensions from 12 months to 36 months."Here is the complete memorandum sent on Dec. 7, 1994 by Marvin Stoogenke, director of the Bureau of Program Operations Procedures (BPO) in the Health Care Financing Administration (HCFA), to associate regional administrators for Medicare. The memo outlines in great detail how the new mandate is to be phased in and includes a very helpful chart outlining the phased in period.
