NUTLEY, N.J., Nov. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Medicare policy is restricting the move toward cost-effective home health care by not extending coverage for home intravenous antibiotic therapy, according to Warren L. Balinsky, Ph.D., author of a newly published report on the subject, Hoffmann-La Roche said today.
The health care consultant, whose report is entitled "Home Care Prescription Drug Reimbursement: A Case For Intravenous Antibiotics," points out that scarce federal tax dollars could be stretched much further if Medicare regulations that now cover hospital-based intravenous antibiotic therapy were extended to include home-based coverage.
