Article: EUROPEAN COMMISSION: ENERGY LABELLING OF WASHING MACHINES AND TUMBLE DRYERS

On May 23, the European Commission approved two Directives describing the labels manufacturers will have to display on household washing machines and electric tumbler dryers. The labels indicate to consumers the amount of energy the appliance consumes, as well as giving other information on their performance capacity. The measures came into force on June 12.

The two documents published in this edition of Europe Energy are Commission Directives, which the EU's executive has adopted in order to implement the Council of Ministers' Directive on the SAVE programme .

SAVE aims to promote efficient and rational use of energy within the EU.
