Should carpet be sold by the square foot? The answer is yes, according to the Carpet & Rug Institute (CRI), which hopes to convince major mills to switch from square-yard pricing by the summer-time.
In an effort to make it easier for consumers to understand and compare the value of carpet and competitive flooring, the CRI board of directors voted in November to institute representation of carpet by the square foot at the manufacturing level.
The target date for implementation is July 1, according to CRI executive director, Ron VanGelderen.
