The expiry of a US patent covering certain of Collagen Corp's collagen-based products may lead to increased competition in the market for injectable collagen implants.
The US company, based in Palo Alto, California, says some of its products, including the trademarked 'Zyderm' cosmetic collagen implants, were manufactured and sold under an exclusive license from Stanford University under the patent, which covered the use of native solubilised collagen for soft tissue augmentation.
According to the company's annual 10-K report to the US Securities and Exchange Commission, one commercial product that is directly competitive with the Zyderm and 'Zyplast' implants ...
