Dunlop Aviation has delivered what it claims to be the first production engine intake anti-icing assemblies to Westland Helicopters for use on the new EH101 Merlin helicopters. Each helicopter is fitted with three composite engine intakes which incorporate heating elements and accompanying electronic control units. The composite consists of a combination of glass and carbon fibre fabric reinforced epoxy and aramid honeycomb which encapsulate the heater foil.
This combination can be formed to match the contours of the most intricately shaped parts that they are required to protect.
