Summary:
Ritt Bjerregaard, the European Commissioner for the Environment, has proposed that a transatlantic conference on the environment should be held in 1997, with the goal of developing comparable strategies and instruments for protecting the environment. Speaking at the European Institute in Washington on February 1, she criticised the trend toward deregulation concerning the environment on both sides of the Atlantic.
