Since the imposition of an export tax on raw rattan and webbing, the rattan-processing industry has had increasingly better export opportunities. This regulation on rattan exports has provided the rattan-processing industry with the opportunity to obtain a good supply of basic materials. Even so, this industry's actual production in 1994 was only 20% of the production capacity despite the fact that export demand was high.
