Thailand, US Wrestling Over New Textile-Apparel Quotas BANKOK (FNS) -- Thailand and the U.S. are trying to reach an agreement on new textile and garment quotas for 1987 since previous talks have failed, industry sources said.
Western diplomatic sources said the U.S. has rejected a proposed 110 million-square-yard equivalent (SYE) import quota for Thai garments previously not covered by the Multi-Fiber Agreement. Thailand is seeking a higher level than this year's allocation of about 98 million SYE in exchange for aceepting U.S. requests to bring apparel made for ramie, linen and silk under quota.
