Fruit of the Loom Freed by Farley For 'Branded Consumer Goods' NEW YORK (FNS) -- Fruit of the Loom, once buried in a conglomerate that had everything from oil and gas to cement and batteries, is now a free-standing public company devoted to the manufacture of underwear for men and women, screen print shirts and socks.

But William Farley, its chief executive officer, prefers to describe it as a "branded packaged consumer goods company." Farley adds, "I don't look at it as an underwear company."
