The new wave in microwaves What's cooking? In microwave ovens, it's usually frozen dinners and left-overs. Some manufacturers, such as General Electric and Litton Industries, are out to change that with fancy models that combine microwaving, baking and broiling. The extra functions allow food to be cooked quickly and still be crisp, which microwaving alone can't accomplish. But the cost can reach beyond $400, vs. $200 for a basic microwave.
