THE OPENING OF Schering-Plough Corporation's $200 million bulk pharmaceutical manufacturing plant and Rhone-Poulenc Rorer Inc.'s announcement of plans for a $50 million plant expansion to make active ingredients for its Lovenox/Clexane injectable heparin underscore Singapore's growing role in pharmaceutical raw materials.

The RPR expansion, due to go into production in 1999, will include new laboratories that will accommodate all operations of the facility, says David Manwaring, general manager and director of Rhone-Poulenc Rorer Manufacturing Pte., the company's Singapore subsidiary.
