Article: KIA the Pioneer of the Ceramic Tile Industry

The first company to produce ceramic tiles in Indonesia is PT Keramika Indonesia Asosiasi (KIA), which commenced its operations in 1970. KIA's first plant is located in Tanjung Pandan in the South Sumatera area of Belitung. Initially, KIA operated under the foreign investment (PMA) scheme. In 1992, it changed its status into a company operating under domestic investment (PMDN) scheme.

Currently, KIA - which is an affiliate of the Arya Upaya Group (or the Ongko Group) - has two ceramic-tile plants, one in Tanjung Pandan (Belitung) and the other in Cileungsi (Bogor). Each of these plants has an annual production capacity of 2.1 million square meters.
