LAS VEGAS, Nev., May 14 /PRNewswire/ -- The largest lake fertilization project in the world is set for May 30, when some 1,000 volunteers with 350 boats will help scientists from the Lake Mead Limnological Research Center dump 20,000 gallons of liquid nutrient into Lake Mead in southern Nevada.
Lake Mead, which lies behind Hoover Dam on the Colorado River System, is among the largest man-made lakes in the United States. It has been a famous sport fishing spot since the late 1930s.
But the fishing hasn't been so good in recent years. The largemouth bass fishery declined drastically, falling from an annual catch of 800,000 in 1963 to 116,000 in 1980. ...
