"Too often we follow rather than lead" in the area of waste management innovation, said Nigel Griffiths MP, UK Minister for Competition and Consumer Affairs. In a speech to a workshop reviewing the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) report on The Competitiveness of the UK Waste Management Industry (see HAZNEWS, February 1998, p. 1), he noted that the image of the UK waste management industry is "not as positive as it needs to be".
Sally Beecham, the report's main author, said it was the DTI's best assessment of the industry and that, overall, data availability in the sector is very poor: market data are limited as the industry is "highly fragmented", with many ...
