This refinery, built in 1962 by Snamprogetti of Italy, is operated by Societe Tunisienne des Industries de Raffinage (STIR). In the late 1980s and early 1990s, the refinery has been operating at more than its 34,000 b/d capacity.
Throughput in recent years has been about 30,000 b/d and net output around 27,000 b/d. The refinery processes oil from Belli field, brought to the refinery in trucks.
Products refined at Bizerte include gasoline, gasoil, fuel oil, LPG, naphtha, natural gasoline, and paraffin. LPG is also produced at the Gabs gas processing plant. At present, the refinery produces less than what is consumed locally. Oil consumption rose over 12% to ...
